With over 100 customers of its software products in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, MicroCenter is one the success stories of Bahrain in indigenous Software Business. Its arguably the only 100% Bahraini software products company that has been sucessfully expanding its customer base for over two decades. Founded in 1983, by Dr. Ghulum Bakri a US educated Bahraini engineer who after earning his Ph.D. in Afrtifical Intelligence, refused a number of luractive offers from large US corporations and then embarked upon his dream of starting a software products company in his native country Bahrain.
Unlike other traditional Business houses in Bahrain, he neither had large capital nor a running business but only extraordinary determination to succeed that ultimately helped him in creating an undisputed market leader for software business solutions designed for small and middle size enterprises (SME) sector.
Interestingly in the environment where no investor wants to invest in intellectual property, MicroCenter also has a unique distinction of being the only Bahraini company that has sucessfully defended an International Copyright case against a Billion Dollar Electronic US gaint Microelectronics corporation at world intellectual property organization (WIPO) at Geneva, Switzerland.
In addition MicroCenter represent a number of global companies in Bahrain specially in GIS space these include ESRI, Telvant (Miner & Miner), Telcordia and Trimble. Specailly ESRI, the world leader in GIS has ArcGIS which is a scalable family of software comprising a complete Geographic Information System, built on industry standards, that is rich in functionality and works out of the bos. With over 60% of the world market share constituting over one million individual users worldwide, the software is used in thousands of applications in virtually every major industry market. These include state and local government, police/military, petroleum, natural resurce management, banking, insurance, telecommunications, utilities, retail, manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, real estate, and fast foods to name a few.
Our future strategy is to expand the existing business into other GCC countires and enter in insurance market by providing integrated applications using smart cards. |
